G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2029) is a science fiction action film directed by Stephen Sommers, based on the popular G.I. Joe toy series. The story follows the formation of an elite military force, G.I. Joe, tasked with combating a secret organization known as Cobra.
Cobra, led by the mysterious and evil Destro, plans to destroy the world with advanced technology and devastating weapons. The film focuses on the origins of the main characters, such as Duke (Channing Tatum) and Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), as they join G.I. Joe and are trained to fight against Cobra’s forces. In the near future of the 21st century, a weapons manufacturer named James McCullen (a descendant of the 17th century McCullen) has created a technology from the Nano field. After successfully researching the ability to destroy cancer cells, he comes up with an invention of a new weapon of terrible destruction. The ability of this weapon is to gradually corrode all metals at an exponential rate. Therefore, it can destroy an entire city or a country. MARS Corporation sold these four Namomite warheads to NATO, so the US Army was ordered to escort the shipment. Army officer Duke (Channing Tatum) was ordered to command the convoy to the NATO center, when his team entered a forest, they were suddenly attacked by an unknown force.
When they were almost defeated, Duke’s team received support from Joe Squad. The fierce battle for the briefcase containing the four warheads.The idea for the film originated in 2003, when Italian-American producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura wanted to make a film that celebrated the advanced technology of the military. Knowing this, the CEO of the Hastro company suggested to Lorenzo the image of G.I. Joe.
They asked Michael B. Gordon to write the script because he was very impressed with the content he wrote for the movie 300. A few years later, Gordon’s script changed a lot about the characters. When Stephen Sommers was hired as director, the writer and character designer for the Pirates of the Caribbean series was hired to rewrite the entire story for the G.I. Joe movie.
