In the Lost Lands is a 2025 dark fantasy epic film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, with a screenplay by Constantin Werner from a story they both co-wrote. Based on the short story of the same name by George R. R. Martin, the film stars Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista as a witch and a hunter, respectively, who venture into a dangerous land to retrieve an artifact for a queen. A man named Boyce, speaking directly to the viewer, warns them that what they are about to see is not a happy fairy tale. Earth has become a desolate, dystopian wasteland called the Lost Lands. In a society ruled by the Overlord, order is forcibly maintained by the Church. Gray Alys, a witch, is being executed by hanging under the orders of The Enforcer and her followers from the Church. Gray Alys used her powers to trick a man into helping her escape, but The Enforcer killed him for it. A woman leads a group of men in pursuit of an escaped witch. Boyce, alone and unharmed in the Lost Lands, travels through the tunnels and anticipates an ambush. He uses a two-headed snake as a weapon before shooting the remaining enemies and continues his journey, Gray Alys finds refuge with a blind witch named Eveline Hall.
She is visited by the Overlord’s wife and head of Overwatch, Jerais. Queen Rhaenyra seeks Gray Alys’s aid, citing a pre-existing agreement that Alys cannot refuse her request. The Queen needs a werewolf during the next full moon. Gray Alys is tasked with killing a beast so the Queen can steal its power. Jerais secretly sabotages the Queen’s efforts, believing that their failure is ultimately in her best interests. Gray Alys uses her powers to find a shapeshifter by entering the mind of the person.
The Queen hates the ailing Overlord, who is on the brink of death. Gray Alys seeks out her former lover, Boyce, in a tavern to ask for his help in finding a shapeshifter. This creature is called Sardor, meaning “Gray Wolf”. The Enforcer is working with The Patriarch, who is plotting to overthrow The Overlord and The Queen, despite serving The Overlord. The Patriarch orders The Enforcer and his followers to capture Gray Alys, extract a confession, and execute her.
Gray Alys and Boyce begin their expedition into the Lost Lands. Boyce and the group reunite with their old friends, Ross and Mara. Boyce and Mara have sex before Boyce resumes his relationship with Gray Alys. The Enforcers capture and torture Ross and Mara, seeking information about Gray Alys and Boyce. The group is supposed to go to Skull River, but they kill Ross and kidnap Mara instead. Boyce and his friends search for Cyrus, but find him hanged by the Church. Boyce and Gray Alys locate The Enforcer and his thugs, but they have blindfolded him to block Gray Alys’s powers. The Enforcer kills Mara to continue tormenting Boyce. He and Gray Alys are attacked by the thugs, leading to a shootout and a chase to a skytrain, where most of the thugs are thrown to their deaths. The Enforcer orders the cable cut, but Boyce saves Gray Alys from falling. The Enforcer shoots Boyce, but Gray Alys uses her powers through her sniper scope to save him and escape.
Gray Alys and Boyce encounter tree-like monsters as they travel. Trapped in a ring of fire for protection, the group is confronted by a monster leader who knows Gray Alys and disapproves of her return. She uses illusion magic to make the monsters believe they are on fire. She warns Boyce that she is dangerous and untrustworthy.
The Queen kills the Overlord, revealing that she is pregnant with Boyce’s child. The Patriarch announces the Overlord’s death but secretly continues to assassinate the Queen. The Enforcer attacks Gray Alys on a train with her thugs. She escapes the tunnel and heads to the end of the broken train tracks, located above. Gray Alys survives, rescued by Boyce, but the Enforcer and her crew die in a train crash and explosion. Jerais kills the Patriarch to protect the Queen and then begins an affair with her.
